Family Reunification (Spouse & Children)

2. Check income and housing requirements. You typically need to show enough income and suitable living space for the family size.
3. Your spouse or child applies for a national (long-stay) visa at the German embassy or consulate in India, not a tourist visa.
4. Prepare documents: marriage or birth certificate (often needed with apostille and certified translation), passport, proof of your residence status, proof of income, and proof of accommodation.
5. Basic German language proof (usually A1 level) is often required for a joining spouse, with some exceptions depending on your permit type and nationality.
6. After arrival in Germany, complete Anmeldung and apply for a residence permit for the family member at the local Ausländerbehörde.

Typical requirements include an invitation letter from you, proof of your residence status in Germany, travel health insurance, and proof of your parents’ ties to India (to support their return).
